In a recent study done by web developer Chris Black, results came forward that showed Flash being faster and running more efficiently on tested hardware than HTML5. In the benchmarks, he pitted an HTML5 animation that utilizes the canvas tag against the exact same animation in flash. The results:
- HTML5 Canvas on iPhone 4: 22fps
- HTML5 Canvas on Nexus One: 40fps
- Flash Player 10.1 on Nexus One: 57fps
Now remember, folks: this isn’t to say that Flash is an all around better solution than HTML5. What this does show us is that Flash on mobile is currently showing better performance, but that could change as development for HTML5 improves. Be sure to check out the video at the end of the article for a closer, more in-depth look.
Which do you prefer? HTML5 or Flash? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
